…. fans injure Rivers United media officer
……Gombe United draw Rivers United 1-1
Rivers United Coach Stanley Eguma, has condemned unruly behaviour of Gombe fans, adding that his team’s media aide sustained injury from the fracas in the game that ended 1-1.
Our correspondent reports that it took the intervention of security operatives to wade off the fans from protesting the outcome of the match.
Recall that Nigeria Premier Football League management company recently handed Gombe United fine, and a match ban following similar cases.
Speaking at the Pantami township stadium during a post-match conference Eguma, disclosed that both teams were desperate for points, adding that it was not enough reason for unruly conducts.
He said, “The two teams were desperate. Gombe United was desperate the way they played was like they were under pressure and they needed the points as well,we also needed the point we could cave in like that. That was why the two teams gave their best and it was interesting and tensed game.”
Commenting on football environment which could be volatile Eguma added, “from the beginning there was good environment the supporters, fans came out in their large number to support and enjoy good football but at the end it ended badly the situation where the referee and away team were been molested the enabling police to use teargas because they found the fans in awkward manner I think is not is not good for our football because there was a lot of pandemonium.”
Eguma continued saying, “You can see the way the whole place was scattered and there was scampering here and there and my media officer was also hurt during the pandemonium after the teargas was released by police this is not what we expect in football. We expected a very good atmosphere because we have also drawn at home in Port Harcourt and there was nothing if this nature no teargas, no pandemonium. We should take every result in good faith to allow football flow in this country.”
Meanwhile, Coach of Gombe United Football Club Mohammed Babaganaru, declined comment.
