Taraba State Government on Tuesday announced the reenforcement on a total ban of motorcycles in Jalingo, the state capital.
The state government also restricted the movement of tricycle (Keke Napep), in the town from 6:am to 8:Pm.
Periscope Nigeria reports that late former governor Danbaba Suntai had in 2012, banned the use of motorcycle in Jalingo town over insecurity being perpetrated with the use of motorcycles, while the immediate past Governor Darius Ishaku, had in 2019, restricted the tricycle movement from 6:am to 9:Pm.
In a press statement issued from the office of the Secretary to Government of the State Taraba, disclosed the development was due to the sudden spate of criminality in the state capital.
The statement disclosed that a taskforce committee constituted by the state deputy governor Aminu Alkali, on behalf of governor Kefas, directed that defaulters of the order be arrested and tried by the mobile court while their motorcycle or tricycles be confiscated and destroyed.
According to the statement, the taskforce committee has, Taraba State Commissioner of Police Joseph Eribo as chairman, the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Taraba Marshal and the Chairman National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) Taraba, to serve as members, while the Secretary, Home Affairs and Special Services Department is to serve as Secretary.
