The Kano State Police Command on Wednesday apprehended a notorious thug, Yusuf Haruna, popularly known as Lagwatsani in Dala local government area of the state for allegedly stabbing a renowned Imam, Mallam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu to death.
According to a press statement signed by the Public Relations Officer SP Abdullahi Haruna, said the cleric was killed for preaching against smoking and other social vices.
The statement partly read, “In a separate incident, the command has apprehended a notorious thug, Yusuf Haruna aka Lagwatsani, 18 of Dala LGA of Kano responsible for the senseless murder of renowned Imam, Mallam Sani Mohammed Shuaibu, 45.”
He added, “the suspect, (Haruna) attacked and stabbed the Imam with Sharp knife at his back while performing ablution, leading to his death because the victim warned him (Haruna) and his gang to stop smoking Indian hemp around the Mosque premises.”
CP Usaini Gumel, assures the public of the Command’s commitment to thorough investigations in both cases. The objective is not only to bring perpetrators to justice but also to deter others contemplating such criminal actions,” he added.
He said the CP urged the public to report any suspicious activities to the nearest Police Station or through emergency contacts for prompt action.
