The Gombe State Government has reiterated commitment to enhance the welfare and well-being of people in the state, inmates inclusive.


Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, who stated this while presenting non-food but essential items to six correctional centres across the state at the state command headquarters, noted with concern the deplorable living conditions of inmates.



Represented by the Secretary to Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, the Governor observed that though the inmates are serving various jail terms for crossing the law, there is a need for authorities to make life easy for them to ensure that they are not only corrected but reformed.
He said the visit and the presentation of the items were follow up to the visit of the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Interior last year who highlighted the need for the state government to intervene as a bill has already been passed transferring the operations of service to state governments.
While appealing for the judicious delivery and usage of the items to those concerned, Yahaya assured of more interventions to ensure no one is left out of his administration’s venovalence.
In a remark on behalf of the State Controller, the Deputy Controller Human Resource, Farouk Magapela appreciated the state government for the gesture and commended Governor Yahaya for creating a peaceful environment in the state thereby lessening their work.
The Deputy Controller Medical of the Command Lukman Ezekiel, lauded the governor for the items which he described as basic and timely assuring those meant for effective benefit.
The items presented include 100 pieces of Mattresses, 200 nylon mats, 200 blankets 30 cartons of bathing soaps,200 mosquito nets,30 cartons of laundry soap,40 gallons of Izal,50 dozens of bathroom slippers,50 dozens of Vaseline,50 dozens of brooms, and N200,000 worth of essential drugs.
The governor was accompanied by the Commissioner Internal Security and Home Affairs Abdullahi Bello Talasse, Permanent Secretary Special Duties Salihu Adamu Sambo, PPS Mohammed Usman Shanu, SSAs on Security Matters and Research/Documentation,among other top government officials.
