Permutations are rife that if the Super Eagles manage to win the title, William Troost-Ekong is undoubtedly a strong candidate for the Player of the Tournament award. #AfCON2023
William Troost-Ekong was born on 1st September 1993.
He is a professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Super League Greece club PAOK and captains the Nigeria national team.
The Skipper gave the national team an early lead in the first half before Ivory Coast’s Franck Kessiè equalised.
Troost-Ekong has scored five goals since the tournament commenced.

William Troost-Ekong has equaled Stephen Keshi’s record as the highest-scoring defender in the history of the Africa Cup of Nations.
The centre-back scored his fourth goal in the AFCON finals in Nigeria’s semi-final victory against South Africa on Wednesday night.
Keshi, a former Super Eagles captain and coach, was previously the only defender who achieved the feat.
