In the sprawling landscape of Borno State, recently they came together as a cadre of formidable women emerging as the driving force behind transformative change.
These women, who hail from Southern Borno, have transcended conventional roles to become influential figures in politics, academia, and public administration, reshaping the socio-political landscape of not just their state but the entire nation.
At the forefront of this movement is Hon. Dr Asabe Vilita Bashir, the Director-General of the National Centre for Women Development. Dr Bashir’s visionary leadership has been instrumental in advocating for women’s empowerment and gender equality, spearheading initiatives that amplify the voices of women across Nigeria.
Joining her in the vanguard is Hon. Dr Salma Anas Kolo, the Special Adviser on Health to the President. Dr Kolo’s expertise and dedication to public health has been pivotal in advancing healthcare policies and programs aimed at improving the well-being of all Nigerians.
In the realm of media and communications, Hon Kwapchi Bata, stands as a shining example of excellence. Serving as the Special Adviser to the President on Media to the office of the Vice President, Bata has utilised her platform to promote transparency and accountability, bridging the gap between the government and the people.
Meanwhile, Hon. Ladi Watila, as the Senior Legislative Aide to the Senate President, has been a driving force behind legislative initiatives that address pressing issues and drive sustainable development in Nigeria.
Within the state government, figures like Hon. Zuwaira Gambo, the Commissioner for Women Affairs in Borno State, is leading efforts to uplift women and enhance their participation in governance and development processes.
Complementing these political figures are dedicated public administrators such as Hon. Comr. Lucy Yuhana of the National Human Rights Commission and Hon. Miss Lidia Gora, the APC Deputy Women Leader. Through their tireless work, they uphold the principles of justice, equality, and human rights, ensuring that the rights of all citizens are protected and upheld.
Furthermore, individuals like Hon. Juliana Bitrus, and Dr Hyelni Mshelia, serving as Permanent Secretaries, play crucial roles in driving administrative efficiency and implementing policies that foster growth and progress.
Supporting the state government are advisors like and Dr Mairo Mandara, Hon. Dr. Hauwa Mai Musa, who provide invaluable insights and guidance to the Borno State Governor, contributing to effective governance and policy formulation.
In the academic sphere, Prof. Hauwa Biu and Prof. Zainab Mohammad, are esteemed scholars whose research and teaching have enriched the intellectual landscape of Borno State and beyond.
Additionally, figures like Hajia Halima Rabasa, Aisha Bulama one of the most active players in state politics and the wife of the Former Borno State Theatre Commander, Sarah Ayuba JP, th seasoned humanitarian and Tafu Malla Gadzama bring diverse expertise and perspectives to the table, contributing to a holistic approach to governance and development.
Collectively, these women embody resilience, determination, and a commitment to excellence. Their rise to prominence signifies a paradigm shift in Nigeria’s socio-political landscape, where women are not just participants but leaders, decision-makers, and change agents.
As they stand united in their pursuit of good governance and inclusive development, these Southern Borno women of substance serve as beacons of hope, inspiring generations to come and paving the way for a brighter, more equitable future for all Nigerians.
It is remarkable to mention Hon. Wasini Debiro’s contributions which were invaluable to the socio-political fabric of Borno State. As the Southern Borno Zonal Women Leader, she occupies a crucial role in galvanising support for the party and advocating for the rights and welfare of women within the political sphere.
Her activism in women’s social justice underscores her dedication to addressing gender-based inequalities and championing the empowerment of women at all levels of society. Through her advocacy efforts, she amplifies the voices of marginalised women, striving to create a more equitable and inclusive environment for all.
Furthermore, as the pioneer of the Southern Borno APC Women Progressives Forum, Debiro has played a pivotal role in mobilising women from the region to actively participate in political processes and decision-making. By fostering solidarity and collaboration among women, she empowers them to assert their agency and influence positive change in their communities.
