The Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 12, Okoro Julius-Alawari, has given a stern warning to those who pay money for bail, saying that the giver and taker are culpable.

Julius-Alawari noted that the Force deliberately wrote it conspicuously at different places in a station where bail is free.
He made this disclosure on Thursday evening during his first official visit to Gombe State command.
Julius-Alawari said, “Both the giver and taker are all offenders. Tell them (the public) not to give because we write everywhere that bail is free, so why will you give? I was once a Divisional Police Officer, I don’t take and I don’t force money out of people. I wouldn’t want anybody to force money out of anyone. If it comes to my table both the giver and taker will be in trouble.”
Addressing officers earlier Julius-Alawari said there are certain things the Inspector General of Police frowns at adding that “You are not expected to extort, manhandle the members of the public, uncivil to members of the public incivility is a serious offence.”
He expressed optimism to maintain the peace enjoyed in Gombe calling on officers of the command to work assidiously to protect it.
“They should wake up to maintain the peace we are enjoying in this place and possibly bring it to keep it. We will make efforts to make sure things are to make sure residents are happy. I commend the Commissioner of Police for working very hard and where there are lapses you will see me show up,” he added.
Julius-Alawari also urged officers to collaborate with other security agencies and eliminate rivalry, “To avoid what happened in Adamawa State, the CP has been showing good examples by undertaking regular visits to other security agencies. It will go a long way in ensuring peace,” the AIG added.
Speaking earlier, Commissioner of Police Hayatu Usman, said the collaborative efforts of the command have helped to entrench community policing, “the command has adopted an early warning system through surveillance and this has helped us understand remote causes of crises to be on top of the situation,” he added.
