…. Urges against overlapping of functions
Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has cautioned the newly inaugurated board of the state-owned College of Nursing and Midwifery not to interfere in the day-to-day running of the institution, urging them to limit their role to the effective administration of the college based on its extant laws.

Yahaya gave this indication while inaugurating the board of the Gombe State College of Nursing and Midwifery recently constituted by his administration on Thursday.

Represented by the Secretary to Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, the governor explained that his administration will not condone needless bickering that usually occurs between boards and managements especially as it affects finance and admission.

He noted that the current astronomical wage bill of government amidst competing demands, presupposes that the board must seek for alternative means of funds to the institution to complement its resources.
“You should use your political and administrative status in the society; talk to your representatives, attract projects and grants, that is what is expected of you,” Yahaya said.
He challenged the members to consolidate on the gains so far achieved by the administration in attaining a brand new college to accommodate more prospective Nurses and Midwives as well as the introduction of post basic in the institution.
The governor equally called on the management of the college to work in consonance with the board in order to create a conducive environment for effective administration, teaching and learning.
Responding, Board Chairman, Saidu Abubakar, assured that the team will discharge its responsibility in accordance with the Standard Operating Procedure establishing the institution.
Abubakar observed that for there to be any meaningful development in the institution, both the management and board of the College must work as a team to deliver on the mandate given to them by Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya.
