The Chairman of Gombe State Independent Electoral Commission, Saidu Shehu, on Saturday said no fewer than five out of 19 registered political parties participated in the April 27 Local Government Area poll.

Shehu who stated this during the collation and announcement of results, disclosed that Kaltungo and Shongom LGAs were unopposed.
Our correspondent reports that council poll was last held in 2020.




According to GOSIEC chairman, other political parties failed to field candidates for the councillorship seats across 114 wards.
He said, “Out of 19 registered political parties five parties had candidates. The parties that participated include All Progressives Congress, Peoples Democratic Party, Accord, Zenith Labour Party, and Young Progressives Party.
“APC cleared the 11 Local Government Area election including Kaltungo and Shongom where the party won unopposed.
“Other parties didn’t have candidates for the councillorship seats, candidates of the APC are returned elected.”
He urged politicians to forgive their failings as humans, and “forge ahead because we are like pencil in the hand of the creator,” Shehu added.
The winners include Barrister Sani Haruna, Gombe LGA; Dr Ahmed Doho, Kwami LGA; Ibrahim Jatau, Balanga LGA; Egla Idris, Billiri LGA, Mohammed Danladi, Akko LGA;Shuaibu Adamu, Funakaye LGAs.
Others are Iliya Suleiman, Kaltungo LGA, Abubakar Hassan, Yalmatu Deba LGA; Binta Bello, Shongom; Adamu Mohammed, Dukku, Babangida Adamu, Nafada.
Meanwhile, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya shortly after voting at Yahaya Umar polling unit O10 called on losers to support the winners to form a common front.
He said, “The people should remain calm and be of good conduct and above all go in solidarity so that whoever that emerges will be supported to deliver on the needs of the people.
“I’m convinced beyond doubt that we are going to head to the coast, there is no fear; you can see people are happy and election is being conducted that is happening across the state. The people are happy and the conduct is good.”
