Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya, has approved N500,000 subsidy for each of the 1,373 state’s intending Muslim pilgrims for the upcoming Hajj exercise.
This decision comes in response to the recent announcement by the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria regarding adjustments to the 2024 Hajj fare.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the total amount for the subsidy for 1,373 pilgrims at N500,000 amounts to N686,500,000 million.
According to a statement signed on Friday by Director-General Press Affairs Ismaila Misilli, the approval is to mitigate the financial strain on the Gombe State pilgrims in the face of current economic challenges.
“Governor Inuwa Yahaya hopes that this intervention will contribute to a seamless and spiritually enriching Hajj exercise for all pilgrims from Gombe State as well as facilitate a conducive environment for religious activities despite prevailing economic challenges,” the statement partly read.
