Sensational Nollywood actor Junior Pope has reportedly died in a boat crash.
Pope also referred to Odonwodo, was married to Jennifer Awele, and had three children.
The deceased aged 39 years was expected to attain 40 next May 7 before his untimely demise. He died alongside three others and some bodies are yet to be recovered.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA gathered that the actor died on Wednesday afternoon during a boat trip for a film production.
National President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, Emeka Rollas, confirmed to Channels Television that the remains of the actor have been deposited at the morgue.
He also confirmed that the remains of a crew member were recovered while the bodies of three other crew members were yet to be recovered as they were five in the boat which capsized after colliding with another boat around the River Niger area in Anambra State.
Less than 24 hours ago, the actor put up a video of himself in a speed boat with no life jacket on with the caption: “See me lamenting the risk we take to entertain you, crossing river 9ja yesterday with no life jacket…who does that?” (sic)
Nollywood actors have started putting up condolence messages on their social media pages to honour the late actor.
Junior Pope’s life and times in Nollywood
The actor joined Nollywood in 2006, when he started attending auditions and acting as a minor character in movies. He usually played the role of a bodyguard, palace attendant, and servant in movies.
In 2007, Pope rose to fame after acting in the blockbuster movie “Secret Adventures” a movie directed by Tchidi Chikere. He has acted in more than 150 Nollywood movies including “Secret Adventures”, “Mad sex”, “Bitter Generation”, “Vengeance of Bullet”, “The Cat”, “The Generals”, “Wrong Initiation” among others.
In 2010, he won the award for Nollywood Most Promising Actor in Nigeria at the Entertainment Factory Awards. He is best known for playing roles of a criminal, villain, armed robber, militant and hitman in movies.
Other awards he has won include Best Actor in a Supporting Role at the Africa Magic Viewers Choice Awards and Best Actor of the Year at the Africa Movie Academy Awards among others.
Alleged miraculous comeback
Based on eyewitness reports it was alleged that upon his rescue unlike the three others Junior Pope, was said to be conscious.
A yet to be identified eyewitness recounted how the had to collect his body from the morgue, to perform sacrifice in order to fully resuscitate him. He noted that after performing the sacrifice by the native doctor, medical doctors confirmed him dead.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that there was an initial jubilation that Pope was conscious before the mammoth crowd was thrown into weeping as medical doctors maintained stance.
