The Association of Non-Governmental Organisations Gombe State chapter, on Thursday, disclosed how its activities have attracted over N5 billion worth of investment to the state.
ANGO made this disclosure in a press statement signed by its acting Chairman Idris Lawanti, Deputy Chairman; Gloria Usman, and Secretary; Bachama Yusuf, while addressing issues following the recent recent resignation of its former chairman Ibrahim Yusuf.
Yusuf who enumerated the various impact of ANGO, towards addressing crises response, economic empowerment initiatives in the state, decried the reason the former chairman would want to crumble an association that has yielded so much to a lot of persons.
He said, “Over the last 10 Years, many of our Organisations have facilitated, advocated for and attracted interventions in various thematic areas into the state and the North-East including Health, Education, Climate Food and Agriculture, Peace Security & Conflict Resolution, Economic and Income Alternatives, Research, Capacity building, and many more; with a range of partners including ActionAid International, Save the Children International, UNICEF, Mercy Corp. Marc Arthur Foundation, CLEEN Foundation, USAID, the World Bank, Bread for the World, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Ford Foundation, Funds for Global Human Rights, Malala Funds, and many others numerous to mention. This has attracted direct investment into the state of over 5 Billion Naira.”
Speaking further the Secretary noted that by implication, almost all the Civil Society Organisations in Gombe State have at one point or the other aided, or facilitated, or committed to the Association of NGOs (ANGO) as a Coalition. “And that is why many of us, including non-eligible members are on our Official WhatsApp Platform (ANGO GOMBE). We have gotten connected with one another, we have worked together in different sectors in our small groups, as individual organisations, and as a collective. We all have been involved with one another. Any attempt, by any individual, or group to sabotage our collectivity will be resisted with all efforts, and we remain resolute! No one individual is better than all of us, no one! And we are ready, to confront any enemy, by any disguise, to distract our collectivity as Civil Society.
“We all have responsibility for our collectivity. Now is the time for all of us CSOs, to consolidate more, and strategise better to face the Socio-economic challenges confronting our people and Communities, and to better contribute positively to the achievement of our 10-Year Development Plan as a state, and the Global Goals the SDGs. It is also very critical that we harness all of our strength, resources, and mechanisms necessary, to deliver on our mandate, as the 4th Arm and 4th Tier of our Governance Structure, as the Civil Society. We must take responsibility for our common ground. We must have shared and Collective responsibility. We are in it together! We must be sensitive to the Transforming nature of our state against all odds, being one of the emerging contemporary states in Nigeria,” the Secretary added.
While lauding the Muhammadu Yahaya-led administration Yusuf added, “We want to use this medium to commend Gombe State Government under the able leadership of His Excellency, Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya CON, the Executive Governor of Gombe State for the unprecedented progress made so far in providing people-centered policy climate, upholding good governance, and projecting Gombe on Global map as first in various Governance parameters including ease of doing business, state with best infrastructure, and several Awards for outstanding leadership in Sustainable Governance in key Sectors including Education, E-Governance, Peace and Security, and many more.
