…assures of judicious distribution
The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has received a total of 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted grains from the Federal Government through the National Emergency Management Agency.
The grains were provided by President Bola Tinubu to reduce the impact of the current economic downturn being experienced in the country in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Performing the presentation of the grains at the fertiliser Warehouse, the North-East Zonal Director, National Emergency Management Agency, Suleman Yakubu, said the President had approved 42,000 metric tonnes of assorted food commodities from the National Strategic Reserve under the custody of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security.
“Distinguished stakeholders, after sharing and successfully transporting the quantities allocated to Gombe State. Today, we are here to hand over the food items to the state government for distribution to the identified deserving beneficiaries in the communities through the constituted committees in each Local Government Area,” Yakubu said.
He listed the membership of the committee to include, Local Government Chairman, State Emergency Management Agency ( SEMA), a Traditional Ruler, Staff of the DSS, Nigerian Police, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps , Faith based organizations; JNI &CAN, Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees, Nigeria Red Cross Society, Women Association, Persons with Disability Groups, Youth Associations, Principals of Boarding Secondary Schools, Civil Society Organisations and the media.
He said the assorted grains were maize, miller sorghum and garri, pointing out that Gombe has a total of 242 metric tonnes of maize, equivalent to 4840 bags of 50 kg, sorghum is 539 metric tonnes, constituting 10780 bags of 50 kg while millet is 99 metric tonnes, making 1980 bags of 50 kg.
Responding, Yahaya, lauded the President, and the National Emergency Management Agency for the provision of the assorted grains.
Represented by his Deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau, the governor assured of judicious distribution of the items.
He said the government of the state is very well known for transparency that is why they take every sector along in their affairs , confirming it by the presence of the various security agencies, religious groups and civil society organisations and all sectors of the society.
Yahaya added, “The central location of the state in the North-East, coupled with the insurgency in the region made Gombe the home of internally displaced persons causing population increase in the population, hence the need for more allocations and interventions.”
