Aisha Yesufu, Nigerian activist, has labelled the Nigerian Presidency as a group of “intellectually bereft thugs” who are more adept at “snatching, grabbing, and running with power” than governing effectively.
Aisha’s response follows the Presidency’s rebuke over her comments on Bola Tinubu’s recent visit to South Africa.
Yesufu had said that President Tinubu was “disgraced” during his trip to South Africa. But the Presidency responded, denouncing her claims and defending Tinubu’s diplomatic engagements.
Yesufu, however, took to her X account to further condemn the administration.
“There is Presidency in Nigeria?” She wrote.
“More like a bunch of intellectually bereft thugs who cannot hold anything down other than snatching, grabbing, and running with it. A bunch of disgrace barely tolerated by those they scramble to visit,” she added.
Bayo Onanuga, Chief Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, has labeled activist Aisha Yesufu as “bitter and toxic” due to the outcome of the 2023 presidential election. Onanuga claimed that Yesufu is upset because her preferred candidate, Peter Obi of the Labour Party, finished third.
Onanuga responded on X (formerly Twitter), criticising Yesufu and her followers. He wrote, “Aisha and her uncouth horde of pessimists are always quick to rush to judgment with any whiff of what appears to them to be negative to the leader of Africa’s biggest democracy. More than a year after the 2023 election, in which their candidate came third, they remain incurably bitter and toxic, more than the supporters of the man who came second.”
Recall that while dignitaries and presidents of different countries received a hug or a handshake from the President of South Africa, Cyril Ramaphosa, to welcome them to his inauguration, Bola Tinubu was neither given a handshake nor a hug.
