The National Youth Service Corps, Gombe State, on Saturday observed National Environmental Sanitation in Bolari District of the state.






Speaking shortly before the commencement of the sanitation exercise conducted by corps members, Gombe State Coordinator, Chinwe Nwachuku, disclosed that cleanliness would to a large extent reduce incidences of malaria.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the participants comprise corps members from different Community Development Services including Peer Education Trainers, National Emergency Management Agency, Medical, Anti-Corruption and Band.
Our correspondent reports that the sanitation was not limited to Gombe metropolis alone, as it was also observed across the rest of the 10 Local Government Areas of the state.
The Coordinator said, “We have CDS programmes all around one of which is Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, so during our medical outreaches we found out that predominant ailment is malaria. One of the ways to eradicate or reduce it to the lowest minimum is clean environment that is why we are doing environmental sanitation today, and I want to say thank you.”
She lauded the support of the traditional institution to the well-being of corps members and the scheme as a whole, adding that “About a month ago, when I came to Gombe, I heard you have been a father to NYSC. Thank you very much, because you have shown it by giving us audience at short notice.”
Earlier, Assistant Director Community Development Service, Bala Mohammed, stated that the National Environmental Sanitation was ongoing across states of the federation.




According to him, the choice of Bolari District for the flag off of the exercise was carefully taken due to the huge benefit corps members derive from the palace.
He said, “This is happening in all the 774 Local Government Areas in Nigeria what makes NYSC stand out is the Community Development Service.
“The Director-General of NYSC recognises the importance of National Environmental Sanitation it on this premise that Brigadier General Yusha’u Ahmed approved today. It’s observed in the 36 states of the Federation with Abuja inclusive. We deliberately chose Bolari, because it houses the NYSC Gombe office and many corps members benefit from this palace.”
On his part, District Head of Bolari, Malam Ahmed Abubakar, commended NYSC officials for the consideration of his domain, disclosing the strong connection between his palace and the corps members.


“This palace is your NYSC home. The corps members used to come whenever they are doing CDS. Our doors are open at any point in time,” he added.
