The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the abduction of a High Court Judge, Justice Haruna Mshelia, his wife, orderly and others in Biu Local Government Area of the state.

ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the spokesman for the police command in the state, confirmed the incident to our correspondent on Monday.

Daso made these disclosures during telephone interviews with our correspondents.

He said, “We received a report today from one Sani Audu through the Divisional Officer of Biu that on 21st of June, 2024 at about 9am, the Honourable Justice with his wife, orderly and the driver were kidnapped along Biu-Maiduguri Road, specifically at Gujba town. Alongside two commuter vehicles the certain number of passengers unknown.”

According to Daso, the police have commenced an investigation to track the abductors and ensure the safe release of the judge, his wife, orderly and the driver and the passengers.

” There has not been any contact with the terrorists, but however the Police have put all security measures to see that the victims are rescued.

” The Police through the Borno State Police Commissioner, has delegated a special Investigation team which comprises the State Intelligence Department and other tactical squad in collaboration with other security forces and the DSS to see how they can get forensic evidence they can get to enable them track and retrieving the victims,” Daso added.

Reacting to why it took three days to ascertain the judge’s abduction alongside others the Public Relations Officer added, “When there is abduction like this we won’t know what is happening until we get information or when the kidnappers reach out to the family members. Gujba is designated within Yobe State Police command we from Borno found it necessary to speak on the matter because he is a senior stakeholder in the society. The information was received today.”
