The Federal Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation in collaboration with Nigerian Red Cross Society (NRCS) Tuesday, inaugurated distribution of cash and food items for 2022 flood victims in Adamawa.
Mr Abel Enitian, Permanent Secretary of the ministry disclose this at the inauguration of the disbursement to beneficiaries in Mayo Ine, Furore Local Government Area.
He said that the project founded Economic Community of West Africa States (ECOWAS) Commission.
“Adamawa State having 1,000 households in the two selected LGAs Fufore and Hong. This, no doubt, is consistent with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the current administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
“This goes to show that Mr. President cares so much about Nigerians especially the vulnerable people, hence he deserves our prayers and support”, he said.
According to him, the response is to impact of the 2022 floods, caused largely by heavy rainfall and release of water from the Lagdo Dam in the Cameroon in September 2022, which affected several countries within the ECOWAS region.
“The project will be targeting the most vulnerable within the project locations such as Widows/widowers, People with Disabilities (PWDs), Pregnant and lactating mothers, Displaced persons, people in IDP camps among others”, he said.
Prince Oluyemisi Adeaga, National President, NRCS said, they were targeting 3,500 Households in Adamawa and five other most affected states in Nigeria.
“Today, we gather not only to distribute cash and food items but to extend a hand of compassion and solidarity to those in need.
“ This support targets 3,500 Households (21,000 persons) across six most affected states in Nigeria, namely; Adamawa, Anambra, Kebbi, Kogi, Oyo and Rivers States”, he said.
According to him, two the most affected local Governments of affected states were selected from the data generated by the key stakeholders including NEMA and SEMAs.
“Today, as we distribute Cash N91,500 and Food Items; 25Kg Rice, 15Kg Gari,12Kg Beans, five Litres Vegetable Oil and five Liters Palm Oil to each Household and, commission Boreholes one in each LGA for those affected by the floods.
“We see the faces of mothers, fathers, and children who have endured so much”, he said.
Mr Kabiru Hassan one of the beneficiaries thanked and appreciated the gesture as he was in need of all the items going by the current inflation in the country.
