The Nigerian Bar Association has petitioned Gombe State Commissioner of Police Hayatu Usman, over the killing of a masters student Joshua Waziri, in Tumfure area, Akko Local Government Area of the state.
In a petition dated July 19 which was made available to PERISCOPE NIGERIA by the Branch Chairman Benjamin Sati, on Tuesday, the perpetrators should be nabbed.
Sati recounted how Waziri was killed by yet to be identified robbers, decried the impact of the incident on residents.
He said, “In fulfilment of the NBA’s responsibilities regarding matters of public interests, we hereby write.
“Sometime on Thursday, 18th July, 2024, our attention was drawn to news of the gruesome killing of a promising young man, Joshua Pilango, an MSc student at Modibbo Adama University Yola, whose remains were found lying somewhere in Tumfure quarters, not too far from Dunamis International Gospel Centre (DIGC).
“Peripheral investigation into the matter revealed that the dastardly act was suspected to have been committed by some yet to be identified individuals who were parading the area in the dead of the night in search of valuables to cart away.
“It is no longer news that incidents like this one have now become rampant in the Tumfure area of Gombe State with no hope of betterment.”
While urging the police to end the the killings and attacks, Sati noted that residents are waiting to see that perpetrators of the gruesome killings are punished.
“In light of the foregoing, we hereby urge you to take immediate steps towards conducting discreet investigation into this latest occurrence (which is not only vicious but equally sheds bad light on the general security situation and the role of the security agencies in curbing criminality within the Tumfure axis) which will unravel perpetrators of the dastardly act, and consequently bring them to book while saving innocent citizens from the havoc these miscreants wreak on them.
“While the Branch and the entire community in Gombe State fix their eyes on you in this matter, we tender the Branch’s sincere appreciation in anticipation of your swift and positive response in this regard as always,” the petition added.
