No fewer than five suspects have been arrested by Borno State Police command over theft of infrastructure.
Parading the suspects Commissioner of Police Yusufu Lawal, represented by Public Relations Officer Nahum Kenneth, the syndicate has penchant destroying government infrastructures.
He stated they stole solar components for powering streetlights of Abuja Sheraton Maiduguri.
The Commissioner said, “On the 14th of July, 2024 operatives of State Intelligence Department arrested five suspects; Mamuda Gamboru 14 years, Shuaibu Suleiman 33 years, ISA Ali 16 years, Sabitu Aminu 17 years, and Inusa Adamu 18 years all of Abuja Sheraton Maiduguri, who conspired amongst themselves and stole away two solar panels, two batteries and two inverters from a street light at layin hadiza moduganari area.”
“Police investigation further revealed that the syndicate specialises in vandalisation of public infrastructures and shop breaking within and around Maiduguri Metropolis. Case will be charged to court after investigation,” Lawal added.
Speaking further Lawal disclosed that on the 16th of July, 2024 acting on a credible information, one Manda Usman, 23 years old Mashidmami Sulumri area, was arrested in possession of a stolen water sumo pump.
“Investigation further revealed that the suspect stole the water sumo pump at Mashidmami Sulumri and attempted to sell it to one Ali Adamu at the rate of N80,000 before he raised and alarm to the police. The case will be charged to court for prosecution,” the police added.
Also, the command noted that on the 7th July, 2024 Maidami Alhaji Bako of Moduganari ward reported to the command that an unknown private number with undisclosed identity called him severally via his telephone number and threatened to kill him if he doesn’t pay the sum of two million Naira N2,000,000.
He said, “On the receipt of the complaint Police State Intelligence Department carried out a discreet investigation, tracked and arrested three suspects Mohammed Goni, Modu Mustapha, and Mustapha Mohammed Lawan of same address in Gwange Ward Maiduguri. The suspects have confessed to the crime and will be charged to court.”
