The Chairman of Gombe Network of Civil Society Organisations Yusuf Ibrahim, has urged the Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, to release the list of stocked palliatives.

Ibrahim made the request during an address on Tuesday during a critical meeting with CSOs, market Unions, organised labour at the Gombe State Government House.

According to Ibrahim, the governor should order an urgent distribution of stocked palliative/food and non-food items to the citizens who are more vulnerable and dying of hunger while in collaboration with all stakeholders and the civil Society leadership for transparency and accountability during distributing process.

He urged for the immediate implementation of the new minimum wage of N70,000 and improve welfare packages of workers.

Chairman Northern Governors Forum,

Gombe State Leadership of the undersigned groups in Gombe state of Nigeria, held an emergency meeting on 22/07/2024 about the current hardship and insecurity in Nigeria which led to the proposed Nationwide Protest from 1st to 10th Aug. 2024, And resolved the following:

  1. Urgent distribution of stocked palliative/food and non-food items to the citizens who are more vulnerable and dying of hunger while in collaboration with all stakeholders and the civil Society leadership for transparency and accountability during Distributing process.
  2. Immediate Implementation of the new minimum wage of N70,000 and improve welfare packages of workers.
  3. Collaborate with the federal government to reverse fuel subsidy and electricity tariff.
  4. Increase funding for tertiary institutions and provide scholarship opportunities for citizens within Gombe State
  5. Revitalisation of Primary and secondary education e.g teachers’ recruitment, teacher training, retraining and welfare scheme
  6. Address the high level of social vices happening within our communities.
  7. Drive simultaneous capital projects and human capital development.
  8. All workers benefit should be implemented according to Civil service rules.
  9. Checkmate market monopoly and encourage open free market competition.
  10. Ensure even and equal distribution of federal government support programs, such as palliatives, NG-Cares, SMEDAN, etc., to deserving citizens, not just ruling party members and cronies.
  11. National Assembly members should liaise with State Government, stakeholders, the community and NGOs to identify constituents’ project needs.
    12.Independent Traditional agency should be established.
    RECOMMENDATION
    Immediate distribution of stocked palliative involving critical stakeholders. Like Traditional leaders, Civil Societies, PWD, IPAC
    State Government should adopt the process of Federal Government while implementing their new Minimum wage of 2024 with immediate effect.
    Gombe state Government should collaborate with Federal Government for the reversal of Fuel subsidy and electricity tariff with immediate effect
    Tertiary institutions intervention
    Revitalization shall be regular for the above-mentioned items
    Re-introducing youth and Women empowerment programs and constitute monitoring and evaluation team headed by Civil society organizations {CSOs}, and improving GOSTEC programs.
    The state government should reduce her on-going capital project to 50%, to consider human capital empowerment. E.g. to help Farmers with new mechanize facilities, small scale business with capital.
    Immediate implementation of Civil servant allowances such as promotion arrears, hazard allowance, and leave grants etc.
    Government should implement price control and constitute monitoring and evaluation team for proper supervision with immediate effect
    Citizen involvement from the communities.
