It has become clearer by the day that Edo State governorship election, scheduled for September 21st, 2024, is simply between the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the party itself. A major crowd puller, Chief Chris Ogievba said the incumbent PDP Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has implemented policies that have endeared him to the citizens and that Edo electorates are eager to see continuity.

He expressed the fear that a league of retirees which he chaired across the 18 local government areas of the state numbering over 362,000 members are wary that a change in government would derail progress of prompt payment of their pension and gratuities.

“We the league of retirees in the state have elected to vote for Barrister Asue Ighodalo and Barrister Osarodion Ogie for their clarity of thoughts and envisioned program for the
elderly retirees and senior citizens that have been abandoned under Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s administration.

“Under Governor Godwin Obaseki’s regime, there have been cessation of regular protests in the streets of Benin City and other parts of state because retirement benefits accruing to every retiree are paid on or before the 25th day of the month.”

“No one of our vote will be dropped in the polling box of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Monday Okpevhbolo for having the backing of Adams Oshiomhole as his godfather, a man whose administration witnessed the deaths of thousands retirees at screening queues on a monthly basis.”

“Now, everything is automated and our details computerized, and in split seconds screenings are done with your retirement code”, Chief Ogievba said.

The highly respected Chief lampooned the APC which controls the national government that has been facing widespread protests due to economic hardship and hunger.

“Edo people should not fall for the APC candidates and their propaganda machines they’ve been using to woo unsuspecting voters in the face of avoidable hardship while their political leader in Abuja remains indifferent to the killings of innocent protesters across the country”, Chief Ogievba queried.

It’s pertinent to note that the PDP’s candidate, Barrister Asue Ighodalo has vowed to build on Obaseki’s legacy once elected. The chief reinterated that PDP’s popularity and track record of enviable development outweighs APC’s stale propaganda stunts because “September 21st is about continuity of notable performance, regardless of taunted federal might.”
