In a commendable act of support, the North-East Development Commission Gombe office, under the Managing Director Mohammed Alkali, who was represented by the Gombe State acting Coordinator Alhaji Rufa’i Manu, has donated essential food items and other relief materials to farmers severely affected by recent flooding in the area.

The flooding, which occurred earlier last month, devastated many farms in the region, destroying crops and leaving farmers struggling to meet their basic needs. Recognizing the urgent situation, the NEDC acted swiftly to provide immediate relief.
He highlighted the commission’s commitment to supporting the agricultural sector during challenging times. “Our farmers are the backbone of our economy, and it is our duty to stand by them in times of crisis,” he stated. “This donation is part of our larger effort to ensure that they have the necessary resources to recover and continue their vital work.”
Zakari Ali Ladan, the Sarkin Noman Hinna, who spoke on behalf of the farmers in Hinna Community, expressed their heartfelt appreciation for the timely assistance. “This support means everything to us,” said Sarkin Noman Hinna. “It shows that we are not alone in this struggle, and we are grateful for the NEDC’s help.”
During the event, the District Head of Hinna, Alhaji Idris Isah Ngurkuma III, expressed his immense gratitude for the timely support, which he believes will help them sustain their families during this challenging time. “It’s been a tough time for all of us,” said Ngurkuma III. “This donation not only helps us feed our families but also reminds us that we’re not alone in this struggle.”
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the food items distributed included 100 25kg bags of rice, wrappers, blankets among others.
Meanwhile, NEDC has announced plans to construct a new maternity facility in the Hinna community, addressing a critical gap in healthcare services. The NEDC MD highlighted the necessity of accessible maternal healthcare, stating, “Every mother deserves quality healthcare, and this new facility will ensure that women in Hinna have the support they need during childbirth and beyond.”
The proposed maternity facility is expected to provide much-needed medical services, including prenatal and postnatal care, as well as safe delivery options for expectant mothers.
Community leaders and residents have welcomed the announcement of the project, seeing it as a vital step toward improving healthcare access in the area.
