The Youth Assembly of Nigeria has officially inaugurated its speaker, principal officers, and members of the House, ushering in the commencement of the parliament’s fourth Republic.
In a ceremony held in Gombe State, Safiyanu Danladi-Mairiga, representing Akko North, was sworn in as the speaker of the Assembly, while Christian Gideon Musa from Billiri East was inaugurated as Deputy Speaker.
The inauguration marks a significant milestone for the Youth Assembly, as it continues to pursue its mandate of advancing the cause of youths across Gombe State.
The newly inaugurated Speaker, Danladi-Mairiga, in his address, pledged to work tirelessly to ensure that the voice of the youth is heard in the corridors of power, emphasising the need for collective efforts in addressing the various challenges facing young people, including unemployment, insecurity, and access to quality education.
“As the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, we are fully committed to pursuing policies and initiatives that will uplift the youth of Gombe State. We will serve as a bridge between the government and the youth, ensuring that their interests are prioritised in all matters of governance,” the speaker stated.
The Deputy Speaker, Musa, also reiterated the YAN’s commitment to providing a platform for young people in the state to harness the potential and be empowered for a prosperous future, promising to support the Speaker and other members of the Assembly in delivering on the expectations of the youth while calling on all members to work in unity to achieve the shared vision of the Assembly.
Stakeholders of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria, who attended the event, expressed optimism about the future of the Assembly under the leadership of Mairiga.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, the outgone Ambassador of YAN in the state, Amb. Mole Istifanus Bennett, as well as other senior figures in YAN including Hon. Abdulmalik Suleiman, Hon. Muhammad Deba, Mr Alola Kaltungo, praised the resilience and leadership qualities of the newly inaugurated officers, urging them to remain focused on their goals and to never lose sight of the pressing needs of young people in the state.
“We believe that the Youth Assembly, under the new leadership, will bring about the much-needed change for the youth in Gombe State. It is important for this team to address the concerns of their peers and work toward creating opportunities that will empower and improve the lives of the youth,” Bennett remarked.
Other members who spoke after the inauguration, expressed their renewed commitment in championing the cause of youth development with a view to fostering stronger partnerships with government agencies and non-governmental organisations to address the challenges confronting young people in Gombe State.
