The need for peaceful co-existence and unity has been emphasised by the Secretary to Government of Gombe State Professor Ibrahim Njodi, as Igbo community celebrate new yam festival.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the celebration is popularly known as iri ji, where newly harvested yams are openly consumed in various delicacies.

The SGS who doubles as Ikemba Ndigbo, commended the Igbo community in the state for the peace and development.
He remarked that the state government under the leadership of Muhammadu Yahaya has created an enabling environment for business to thrive, urging “Igbos to take advantage of the friendly environment and conduct legitimate enterprises,” he said.

Njodi who was represented at the event by the Senior Special Assistant General Duties to the governor, Yakubu Sarma said “there is need for peace and unity for which the festival represent.”

The SGS further assured the Igbo community in the state of his continued support given his disposition as titled man within Igbos.
He appreciated the community for their unwavering support to the present administration.
Also, Special Adviser to the governor on intercommunity relations and guest speaker at the occasion, Cornelius Ewuzie, thanked guests who made it to the occasion and commended governor Yahaya for his developmental stride in the state.
He stressed the importance of the new yam festival in Igbo culture and further assured of Igbo’s and other none indigenous tribes residing in Gombe of their unrelenting support to the present administration.
