The Director-General National Orientation Agency Lanre Issa-Onilu, has emphasised the need for national cohesion, unity and cooperation through understanding of National Anthem and National Values Charter.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that Issa-Onilu made the call during a sensitisation campaign in Gombe State.
Represented by Director Planning Research and Strategy Abuja, Nura Yusuf-Kobi, the DG said the standardised version of the re-adopted National Anthem, ‘Nigeria, We Hail Thee’, is not merely a song, saying “it is a symbol of our collective identity and aspirations. It serves as a reminder of our shared values and the strength of our unity in diversity. The anthem’s correct lyrics, as approved by the President, are crucial for maintaining its integrity and ensuring that it continues to inspire patriotism and national pride.”
Speaking further Issa-Onilu added, “The anthem’s re-adoption marks a return to our roots, evoking nostalgia and a deep emotional connection, especially among those who remember it from our early years of independence. It is our hope that this anthem will inspire a renewed sense of national pride and unity among all Nigerians.”
On the National Value Charter Issa-Onilu disclosed that is another pivotal component of its campaign on patriotic obligations between the country and its citizens, stressing that the obligations are designed to instill a sense of responsibility and commitment for nation’s development.
“The government promises to ensure the safety and security of all citizens. This is crucial for fostering a stable environment where citizens can thrive and contribute to national development.
“Commitment to upholding justice and equity ensures that all citizens are treated fairly, which is essential for maintaining trust in government institutions and promoting social harmony.
“Providing economic opportunities for all citizens is vital for reducing poverty and enhancing the quality of life. This promise aims to create jobs and support entrepreneurship.
“Ensuring access to quality education for every child is fundamental for national development. It equips future generations with the skills needed to drive innovation and economic growth.
“The promise of accessible healthcare for all citizens is crucial for maintaining a healthy population, which is a prerequisite for a productive workforce.
“Commitment to developing infrastructure supports economic activities and improves the standard of living by providing essential services like transportation, electricity, and water.
Also, State Director Adaline Waye-Patari, said the campaign will ensure national unity patriotism and deeper understanding of National values.
She said, “In Gombe State we have structured various activities to ensure that the campaign resonates with people from all works of life. The activities will include press conference, to inform and educate the media about the significance of the campaign.
“Others are town hall meetings that will foster dialogue between community members and leaders to promote the national anthem national values charter, road shows across various parts of the state to raise awareness as well as school visitations to educate the younger generation about our national symbols a values to ensure civil responsibility.
Advocacy visits to key stakeholders to religious and traditional institutions to encourage their support and collaboration in spreading vital messages.”
