The need for peaceful co-existence has been emphasised by various stakeholders at Government Girls Secondary School Kuri, Yalmatu-Deba Local Government Area of Gombe State on Thursday.
Speaking during a one-day sensitisation on the importance of peace, Lead mentor of Women Peace and Security Network Hajiya Halima Mahdi, urged members of Peace Club to uphold peace, peace, stressing the need for them to see themselves as ambassadors.
She harped on the role of mothers in the family, society, noting that they can be whatever they aspire to achieve.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the sensitisation commemorates the September 21 International Day of Peace.
The sensitisation was organised by UN Women, CLEEN Foundation with support from Norwegian Embassy with 2024 theme as ‘Cultivating a culture of peace’.
On her part, a former Principal and mentor Hajiya Talatu Usman, commended the students for upholding peace, urging them to assidiously promote it.
She said, “No quarrel between members of staff when I served here. I served as principal here, I worked with colleagues as if I gave birth to them. GGSS Kuri has always been upholding peace, we believe there are doctors, professors here among the students.”
Also, Programme Officer of CLEEN Foundation Mr Nnamdi Odo, while presenting on the benefits of Peace Club, urged members to show commitment by seeing themselves as ambassadors of peace in their school and communities.
Odo further called on the students to embrace peace and show peace.
He for she; Mohammed Farouk, during his remarks harped on the need for peace building, adding “You can only give what you have. What we are doing is to build peace.”
Welcoming the delegation, Principal Halima Hinna, assured that the club would be supported by the school towards achieving its targeted results.
