President Bola Tinubu has expressed concern over the prolonged blackout in Northern Nigeria, directing the Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, to expedite restoration efforts.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy), which was obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA.
The President summoned Adelabu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu to address the disruption, which has crippled social and economic activities in the region.
“I am saddened by reports of vandalism and wilful destruction of power infrastructure,” President Tinubu said. “We will no longer condone deliberate sabotage and destruction of public utilities.”
Adelabu briefed the President on efforts to repair damaged transmission lines, particularly the Shiroro-Kaduna line. President Tinubu instructed him to find a long-term solution to prevent future disruptions.
To ensure uninterrupted restoration work, President Tinubu directed Ribadu to deploy security personnel, including aerial support, to protect engineers.
The President urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and security agencies to collaborate in safeguarding public assets.
“The government will not tolerate deliberate destruction of public utilities,” he emphasised.
With these measures, President Tinubu aims to restore electricity swiftly and maintain peace in Northern Nigeria.
