Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment, a world Bank supported project is to construct 32 schools and empower girl child across 21 local government areas in Adamawa.
Mr Bathon Hyelda, AGILE’s Monitoring and Evaluation officer disclose this at the maiden media roundtable meeting in Yola on Friday.
He said, the construction is part of the first phase project 16 of the project for junior secondary schools and 16 for senior aimed to address out of school challenge and improve girls’ child education in the state and country at large.
According to him, more schools would be renovated up to standard and the schools were selected based on merit.
He said that the project also have conditional cash transfer programme aimed at empowering the girls with funds to be in schools to complete among various components.
Dr Garba Pella, Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development said, the state government have earlier paid N100 million counterpart fund for the project.
Pella, the AGILE’s Chairman Steering Committee, called on media practitioner to understand the objectives of the project and to create awareness to ensure successful implementation of the project.
He said AGILE is a golden opportunity for the state to turn around the education sector despite education is the top priority of Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri.
Pella explained that the schools to be constructed would have all sport facilities ground, staff rooms, lecture halls among others to be conducive for learning.
“No girl should be absent in class because of menstruation and marriage should not stop them from going to school with AGILE in place,’’ he said.
Mr Siddiki Liman, solicited for media to educate parents, guardians and stakeholders on aims and objectives of AGILE.
According to him, without media and proper awareness, the project will not succeed as they were in the process of implementation.
