As part of proactive measures to ensure security and stability in Taraba State before and after yuletide season, the 6 Brigade Nigerian Army/Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke (OPWS), under the leadership of Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, has engaged high-level stakeholders of Karim Lamido Local Government Area of Taraba State.
As part of the engagement, Brigadier General Uwa had payed a courtesy visit to His Royal Highness, the Chief of Wurkun, Alhaji YakubuHaruna, at his palace, during which both leaders reiterated their commitment to ensuring peace and stability within the area.
His Royal Highness, Alhaji Yakubu Abubakar Haruna, had during the interface, expressed gratitude for the Brigade’s giants strides towards ensuring security in the area and pledged the cooperation of traditional institutions to support the Brigade’s initiatives.
A statement signed by Captain Olubodunde Oni, the spokesman of the Army, Ating Assistant Director, 6 Brigade Army public relations, stressed that the command had also convened an elaborate stakeholders meeting on Thursday as part of the engagement.
The elaborate stakeholders meeting which brought together, various interest groups, tribes, and religious leaders of Karim Lamido Local Government Area was aimed at deliberating on frantic and collaborative measures that would bring lasting peace in the Local Government Area in particular and Taraba State in general.
Addressing the meeting, General Uwa underscored the importance of peace and security in the region, emphasizing the strategic role of Karim Lamido LGA due to its vast landmass and shared boundaries with other states such as Bauchi, Gombe, Nasarawa, Adamawa and Plateau States.
He urged the Local Government Chairman, Hon. Britus Danjos, to intensify community sensitisation on security consciousness and encourage the integration of local vigilantes and hunters into the security framework under strict supervision.
The commander who proposed the establishment of a neighbourhood watch system to complement existing structures, called on community leaders to work closely with security agencies by providing actionable intelligence, reassuring stakeholders that such information would be handled with utmost confidentiality.
“Peace is non-negotiable for the progress of Karim Lamido and its environs. We must foster collaboration between the people, their leaders, and security agencies to protect lives and property effectively.
“6 Brigade Nigerian Army and Sector 3 OPWS is committed and charged to work with communities and stakeholders to maintain peace and security in Taraba State and beyond,” the statement added.
Earlier in a remark, the chairman, Karim Lamido LGA,.Hon. Britus Danjos, commended the leadership style of Brigadier General Uwa and his unwavering commitment towards addressing security challenges in Taraba State.
He lauded 6 Brigade proactive measures and pledged the LGA’s full support in ensuring a peaceful and secured environment.
