Women Cooperatives in Gombe State have been urged to take advantage of opportunities inherent in energy transitioning especially at the local level.

Making this call at a One-day launching and media briefing to call for support women’s cooperatives organised by Clean Technology Hub and Heinrich Böll Stiftung; Desmond Dogara, Senior Manager Energy Access at CTH noted that there are far-reaching advantages for groups to harness.
He said, “The initiative is driving local solutions for energy transitioning at state level. We have been able to train 50 women, small holder farmers, SMEs including caterers, tailors, bakers, barbers in these sectors in Gombe for 8 months.”
The Senior Manager Energy Access added, “To understand the essence of renewal energy technology which include solar driers, solar irrigation pumps, solar milling machines. We have seen a lot of interest on how they can get the technologies and so how we have seen how they have trickled the training down to the community.”

While urging for sustainability measures, Dogara commended the stakeholders, saying, “Our goal is to see that these women replete it, we will provide them with more information, share funding opportunities at the local government level.”

Also speaking, Yusuf Haruna, Chairman, Nigeria Association of Small Medium Enterprises, Gombe State lauded Clean Technology Hub and Heinrich Böll Stiftung for the support.

He disclosed that Shongom Local Government Area Chairperson Binta Bello may key into the prospects of renewal energy technology, “it’s for us to now go to the LGA for further discussions,” he added.
Christiana Adams, Chief Executive Officer of Kwari Multiservices company, farm cooperatives noted that through the capacity building she understood how to purchase solar power, to buy alternative power supply.

“We didn’t produce anything but I had to talk to the women on the importance of alternative power supply during the last blackout.
Nyaga Kanu, Chief Executive Officer of Taimako 4 women initiative and founder Tallafin mata multipurpose cooperatives entrepreneur, emphasised on the health benefit of renewable energy, saying that they are friendly to the environment and health.
She added, “You have to be healthy to do business. I want to see the health impact on women. I’m a beneficiary of renewable energy.”
Executive Director Concerned Minds for Environment Health Initiative Halima Mahdi, commended the organisers, urging utilise lessons learned.
Madhi harped the need for government to establish solar farms, adding that “how can we use things with health hazards. Fire wood has health implications.”
BudgiT Nigeria Gombe State officer; Barrister Martha Daniel, urged political officers to refrain from distributing items that are not friendly to ozone layer..
“As 2025 budget is underway, I had to tell some representatives’ aides that women should get solar processors not
just sewing machines, but this time driers,” she added.
