Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has strongly opposed the proposed tax reform bill, warning that it will have devastating consequences for the Northern and Southern regions of Nigeria.
In an interview with BBC Hausa, Governor Zulum stated that the bill will only benefit Lagos State, while other states, including Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, and Ondo, will face significant challenges.
“We rejected the tax reform bill; it will bring backwardness to the North, and not only to the North, but also to the South East, South South, and South West,” Governor Zulum said.
He urged President Tinubu to revisit the tax reform bills, considering that he received 60% of his votes from the northern region.
“What we want is for him to withdraw the tax reform bills,” Governor Zulum emphasised.
The Borno State Governor’s opposition to the tax reform bill has sparked concerns among stakeholders, who fear that the bill could exacerbate the economic challenges facing many states in Nigeria.
