The National Youth Service Corps Gombe State Coordinator Chinwe Nwachuku, on Friday commended the state government for augmenting corps members feeding.
Nwachuku made this remarks during the swearing-in ceremony of 2024 batch C stream I held at the temporary orientation camp, Amada Akko Local Government Area of Gombe State.
Our correspondent reports that no fewer than 1,291 batch C stream I corps members comprising 690 males and 601 females were sworn in by Chief Judge of Gombe State Halima Mohammed, who was represented by Justice Yahaya Abubakar
She said, “I also want to seize this opportunity to thank immensely His Excellency for always coming to our aid in terms of augmentation of feeding during every orientation course. Sir we are indeed very grateful, and we know that it is as a result of unflinching love you have for the scheme and the youths in the country as a whole.”
Speaking further the Nwachuku lauded the state for it efforts in providing for the scheme the needed facility, saying that when finally completed would be force to be reckoned with.
“However, we will continue to renew our appeal to the state government towards the fulfillment of her commitment in providing a befitting orientation camp in the state. I wish to thank His Excellency because my dream of hopefully hosting the first next orientation camp at our ultra-modern state of the art orientation camp seems to be seeing light of the day. I must say that it is such a magnificent, edifice and I am sure will be the best orientation camp in the country if completed. It will go a long way to tackle resultant effects of a temporary camp. Sir thank you for making my dream comes true,” she added.
While emphasising the importance of national service, Nwachuku noted that it promotes the much needed unity and cohesion, stressing “This will not only offer you the opportunity for a broader understanding of the country, but also entrench the culture of working together in an atmosphere filled with friendship, peace, harmony, and a shared vision of a great and prosperous Nigeria.”
She urged the corps members to embrace skill acquisition, disclosing that millions of graduates are roaming the streets of Nigeria in search of elusive paid employment.
Nwachuku added, “It was in realisation of this, that the scheme introduced the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development training to enable you learn and identify your skill potentials towards attainment of self-reliance and sufficiency. I therefore, encourage you to avail yourselves of this golden opportunity and develop your entrepreneurial mindset by choosing from any of the skill areas and make yourselves available for the training, which starts from the Orientation Camp. On our part, Management will continue to work with relevant stakeholders for the success of the programme.”
Declaring the orientation course open, Gombe State Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, who was represented by Secretary to Government of the State Professor Ibrahim Njodi, commended their decision to serve in the state.
He assured the corps members of safety, saying “I welcome you on board national service and to Gombe State in particular. Gombe state is a cosmopolitan State that is culturally diverse, vibrant and known for the promotion of peaceful coexistence, individual freedom, equality and justice. Gombe State is enriched with abundant human and natural resources, rich cultural heritage with agricultural produce which also promotes healthy commercial trade. Feel free to join in any of the businesses in Gombe State.”
Continuing the governor added, “Fellow compatriots, it is crucial to note that your call for national service begins at the orientation camp where you are expected to stay for three weeks. The orientation course is designed to serve as an introduction into the NYSC Scheme for you, to enable you adequately learn about the objectives and ideals of the NYSC, it is a highly regimented environment. Therefore, you must obey the rules and regulations guiding your activities here.”
