A deadly dispute between farmers and herders in Gombe State has led to the arrest of three individuals.
Our correspondent reports that the suspects include Bello Galadima, Babangida Bello, and Abubakar Bello, all from Lembi village in Akko Local Government Area.
According to ASP Buhari Abdullahi, Public Relations Officer, on Friday the arrest follows a formal complaint filed after the death of Mohammed Mahiru, a herder who sustained severe head injuries during a fight.
The conflict began when Ibrahim Mahiru, 13, Abubakar Mohammed, 21, Auwal Umar, 20, and Ibrahim Mohammed Kakale, 22, all from Gona village, grazed their cattle on a cassava farm belonging to Bello Galadima.
Abdullahi added, “The farmers, upon seeing the cows on their land, engaged the herders in a fight using sticks and machetes. Mohammed Mahiru was severely injured and later confirmed dead at the General Hospital Kumo.”
Abdullahi while explaining further added “During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their crimes and will face prosecution. The police promptly responded to the complaint, rushing the victims to the hospital.”
