Pro Chancellor of North-Eastern University, Dr Sani Jauro, on Saturday said the varsity has zero tolerance to violation of rules, urging students to desist acts capable of tarnishing the school and parents’ image.

Jauro made this disclosure during the third matriculation ceremony for 450 students, and academic honour presentation at North-Eastern University, Gombe.

He warned against absenteeism, saying that it would not be tolerated, “Those who violate our rules will serve the punishment nothing can stop us from punishing them,” he added.

Explaining further Jauro added that the idea is to inculcate discipline, saying “we want them to get degree in both character and in learning for example if you don’t have 70 per cent attendance for a course you won’t seat for the examination no matter you do we will not allow you seat for the exam, it will reflect in result. Attend classes regularly, do not violate our rules. We want to assure the parents that we will not disappoint them.”
Also, Gombe State Commissioner for Higher Education, Mohammed Gadam, while commending the matriculating students, Gadam noted that the occasion marked a significant milestone in their academic journey, urging them to embrace the opportunities and challenges that ahead.
Gadam added, “Concentrate on your studies, work hard, read well, engage in research, and demonstrate integrity, respect and responsibility throughout your stay in the University.
“I also urge you to shun all forms of social vices; drug abuse and all negative tendencies that can mar your future.”
On his part, Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Yahaya who was represented by Secretary to Government of the State, Professor Ibrahim Njodi, harped on the need for skills acquisition, in order to become employers of labour.
He added, “There are no government jobs now. I know you will be given the needed support to acquire skills. If you want to excel in life come to North-Eastern University.”
Earlier, Vice Chancellor of NEU, Professor Yusuph Yahaya, noted that the North-Eastern University, Gombe respects its student’s abilities and gives them freedom to pursue their studies with confidence, stressing the need for decorum.
He added, “We have zero-tolerance for any form of indiscipline, or vices. We are at NEU, believe that it is only through this process that our students will become one of the best students in the world.
“The pace of change we witnessed since our inception, has been driven on by three forces: an administrative class that wants to minimise complaints, a subset of academics who actively support the no-nonsense traditions set by our Founders through our Governing Council and a proportion of students who will take the path proffered and obey all the rules set by the institution.
“To our dear parents, I want to categorically state today that education is a team effort between parents, students and teachers.”
