Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of zone 5, Benin City, Arungwa Nwazue, has launched a new vigilante group in Edo State to enhance security and gather information for the police.
Zone 5 comprises Delta, Edo States.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the Edo State Police Vigilante Group will work closely with law enforcement agencies to ensure watertight security.
According to SP Tijani Momoh, Police Public Relations Officer, AIG Nwazue, emphasised the importance of cooperation between the police and the new vigilante group.
“The AIG further advises the good people of Edo State to cooperate with the Police and the new vigilante group for utmost policing,” Momoh stated.
Our Correspondent reports that this development is part of efforts to strengthen security in Edo State. Previously, Governor Godwin Obaseki announced plans to train operatives and enlist ex-servicemen to coordinate vigilante groups’ activities . The state government has also collaborated with security agencies to refurbish and upgrade police training facilities.
The launch of the new vigilante group is a significant step towards enhancing security in Edo State. As AIG Nwazue assumes duty in Benin City, he is expected to build on existing initiatives to ensure peace and security in the region ³.
