A five-day capacity building workshop on Gender Equality in Education has been held in National Centre for Training and Human Resource Development, Zuma Rock, Niger State.

The workshop, which took place from November 11 to 15, 2024, brought together 51 participants, including Gender Desk Officers, education officials, and civil society representatives from Akwa Ibom, Anambra, Ekiti, Gombe, Zamfara and the Federal Capital Territory.

PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the workshop was jointly organised by the Federal Ministry of Education in collaboration with the Gender at the Centre Initiative, UNESCO-IIEP, UNICEF, and the United Nations Girls’ Education Initiative.
According to a report signed by Yusuf Atiku, CSO representative of ICSEI Gombe, the workshop aimed to strengthen the capacity of stakeholders to integrate gender equality principles into education sector planning and implementation. “The workshop underscored gender equality as a transformative tool for societal and educational advancement,” the report stated.
Mr Abel Akhere Aisuedion, a key stakeholder, emphasised the importance of the workshop, saying, “The workshop’s role in transforming education to bridge gender disparities cannot be overstated.”
Hajia Binta Abdulkadir also reiterated the need for gender equality in education, stating, “We must work together to create an education system that values and empowers every learner, regardless of gender.”
The workshop resulted in the development of state-level action plans and a communique outlining the next steps for embedding gender considerations into education policies.
The Federal Ministry of Education has called on all stakeholders to maintain their commitment to fostering an inclusive, equitable education system.
