Nigerian Navy on Thursday inaugurated a solar-powered motorised borehole with solar lights at Lassa community in Askira/Uba Local Government Area of Borno.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the project was facilitated by Rear Adm. Samson Bura.

Speaking at the inauguration, Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla represented by Rear Adm. Monday Unurhiere, said the project is under the Naval Staff Special Intervention Quick Impact Project.

According to him, the project further contributes to the ongoing federal government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

“Today’s commissioning of this project does not only resonate with the vision of President Bola Tinubu, but aptly captures the essence for the quick impact projects.

“Traditionally and indeed globally, civil military relations are intent on maintaining peace and stability by ensuring that military power is used to protect rather than threaten the people.

“Accordingly, on the one hand, the Nigerian Navy offers its accomplished senior officers the opportunity to touch lives at the grassroots level through these projects,” he said.

Ogalla solicited the support and collaboration of the community in providing timely information on security while imploring community members and users to maintain the project.

In his remarks, Bura said the industrial borehole, with 80,000-liter capacity overhead tank and the project marks a significant day for both the Nigerian Navy and the people of Lassa.

He said that the Nigerian Navy values the cooperation and goodwill it receives from communities across the nation, particularly in Borno, where many of its sons have contributed greatly to the Navy and Nigeria in general.

He appreciated the support and collaboration of the Lassa community in addressing security challenges.

“Together with other security agencies, the Nigerian Navy remains committed to ensuring peace and safety in Borno state,” he said.

Gov. Babagana Zulum of Borno state appreciated the Nigeria Navy for the project and called on the community to take ownership of the project for maximum benefit.

Zulum, who was represented by the Vice Chairman of the council, Mr Peter Musa, expressed readiness of the council in ensuring maintenance of the project.

Mr Wakili Timothy, District Head of Lassa-Samowa community, thanked the facilitator of the project for the vital intervention, and his subjects to take good care of the borehole for maximum benefit.
