The workshop is scheduled to hold on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the Board Room of the Oyo State Library Board, Opposite Cocoa House, Dugbe, Ibadan, Oyo State, commencing at 12:00 PM.

This was disclosed in a press statement issued by the convener of the workshop, Mr. Wole Adedoyin, who expressed excitement over Mrs. Oke’s participation, emphasizing her wealth of experience and the critical role she plays in intellectual property protection and copyright enforcement in Nigeria.

The Workshop on Intellectual Property, Copyright, and Book Piracy marks the inaugural edition of Ibadan Book Talk, an initiative dedicated to enhancing the skills of writers and enriching the literary culture in Ibadan and beyond. This program aims to provide a dynamic platform for book lovers, writers, and publishing professionals to exchange knowledge, delve into contemporary issues within the literary space, and foster a vibrant reading culture.

The event is organized by the Ibadan Book Club (IBC) in collaboration with the Redeemed Writers Network (REDNET) and Global Word Crafters (GLOWCRAFT). The workshop aims to educate writers, publishers, editors, artists, journalists, and other creatives on intellectual property rights, copyright laws, and combating book piracy.

The workshop will focus on practical strategies and legal insights to empower participants.

Topics to be discussed include: Understanding Intellectual Property Rights, Protecting Creative Works in Nigeria: The Role of the Nigerian Copyright Commission, Copyright Awareness and Enforcement: Strategies for Authors and Publishers, The Fight Against Book Piracy: NCC’s Efforts and How Stakeholders Can Support, Navigating Copyright Challenges in Nigeria: Your Rights and Responsibilities, Building a Sustainable Publishing Industry in Nigeria: Tackling Piracy with NCC’s Tools and Policies.

Mrs. Oke Oluropo Christiana, the Oyo State Coordinator of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), Ibadan Office—overseeing Oyo, Osun, and Ekiti States—has been a pivotal figure in driving the NCC’s campaigns against copyright infringement. She has played a crucial role in raising awareness about the significance of intellectual property in Nigeria. At the workshop, she will provide invaluable insights into the commission’s framework and offer practical strategies for creatives to effectively safeguard their works.

In addition to the knowledge-sharing sessions, participants will have the opportunity to interact with industry experts, network with fellow creatives, and learn practical tools for protecting their intellectual property. The workshop is open to all and free of charge.

Participants will also benefit from complimentary Certificates of Participation and automatic membership in the Society of Young Nigerian Writers (SYNW), providing them with further opportunities to engage with like-minded individuals in the creative industry.

To reserve a spot, interested participants are encouraged to send their details, including name, phone number, gender, and email address, to Wole Adedoyin at 08072673852.

This workshop is an essential platform for creatives to gain a deeper understanding of intellectual property, copyright laws, and how to address book piracy challenges effectively. Don’t miss this opportunity to empower yourself with the tools and knowledge to protect your creative works.
