The Senator representing Taraba Central Engineer Haruna Manu, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the Federal Ministry of Works to consider the reconstruction of the collapsed Namnai bridge in Taraba State.
Senator Manu alongside other citizens, lamented the deplorable situation the bridge has force commuters to, and the negatives economic impact that has put the region in. many business owners in dilemma.
The red chamber lawmaker who spoke during a phone conversation with journalists on Friday, expressed worry that the situation has put many business owners in dilemma, and was completely crippling the economic link between the North-East, and southern part of Nigeria.
“I wish to appeal to president Bola Tinubu, the federal ministry of works to consider the immediate reconstruction of the collapsed Namnai bridge in Taraba state.
“The bridge is a single link that connects between the north East, part of North Central and the southern parts of Nigeria. Due to the collapsed bridge, the economic activities connecting the three region have been crippled.
“Since the bridge collapsed, the North-East development commission had promised to quickly intervene but up till now, work has not commence on the bridge,” the lawmaker appealed.
Meanwhile, residents of Taraba have expressed displeasure over the challenges noting that the Namnai bridge was washed away the same time with two bridges along Yola- Gombe and Gombe- Bauchi roads which have already been reconstructed by the Federal Government.
Mr Japhet Tyokyaa, and Sadiq Ibrahim, both said, “We wonder if Taraba is not important as other Nigeria state. The Namnai bridge collapsed the same time with a bridge along Yola- Gombe and Gombe- Bauchi road but the two bridges have been reconstructed. We do not know why the Federal Government has not given any attention to the Namnai bridge that is the link between the North-East, part of North Central and the southern region.
“We wish to appeal to president Bola Tinubu to consider action and save the economy of the North-East region.”
