The United States Agency for International Development Nigeria State Accountability, Transparency and Effectiveness Activity on Friday concluded its two-day governance orientation for USAID funded implementing partners in Gombe State.

Partners include USAID Leveraging Education Assistance Resources in Nigeria; and, Mercy Corps, implementing a resilience programme, Feed the Future – Rural Resilience Activity, International NGO Safety Organisation, and Taimaka project

PERISCOPE NIGERIA had reported that the meeting which commenced on Thursday, at Custodian Hotel was declared open by the Special Adviser to the Gombe State Governor on Development Partner Coordination, Dr Isiyaku Babayo.
Babayo was a former staff of both USAID SENSE and USAID Learn to Read.
The Special Adviser added, “I employ participants to be active. They should leverage from each other and from there we will not see duplication of functions. Perhaps one partner is doing in the same location, so another partner will not come and same thing in the same place.
“You can only understand this during this type of coordination meeting because we give updates on what we are doing, and next step.”
State2State Gombe State Local Governance Manager, Zariyatu Hashidu, while setting agenda for IP coordination in the state, harped on alignment and complementarity of the activities of IPs with the objectives of State2State.

In his closing remarks, State2State Gombe State Team Lead, Muhammad Abubakar, told the implementing partners that the essence of the meeting which was aimed at enhancing participants’ knowledge and understanding of State2State’s governance approach has been achieved.
Abubakar urged the IPs to promote the sustainability of State2State’s interventions in the state.

“USAID IPs support the State Government in many sectors. These collaborations have extensively resulted in detailed partnerships for sustainability and the provision of technical assistance,” he added.
Continuing Abubakar said, “At the end of the workshop, agenda will be set by the implementing partners to improve on program implementation and coordination in 2025 to further support the Gombe State government in its reform efforts.”

The two-day workshop had presentations on Understanding, and skills in governance orientation, Governance analysis tools and its application to contextual scenarios.
Understanding of the steps to mainstreaming Gender Equality and Social inclusion sensitivity in programme design and implementation.

Newly appointed Executive Chairman of Gombe State Disability Commission Dr Ishiyaku Adamu, lauded Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, for assenting disability bill and establishment of the commission.
Adamu noted that the commission would further protect the rights of persons with disabilities, urging implementing partners to collaborate with the commission towards better impacting PWDs.
