Bola Tinubu’s administration has proposed a budget of N255.7 million for the purchase of new Sports Utility Vehicles for both Tinubu and Kashim Shettima.
This expenditure is part of the operational vehicles for the presidential conference car unit (CCU) fleet in Abuja.
The proposal, included in the 2025 fiscal appropriation bill, was presented to the joint National Assembly—comprising the Senate and the House of Representatives—on December 18, 2024.
A breakdown of the budget reveals that N127,864,107 is allocated for purchasing SUVs for the President and Vice President, with an additional N127,864,107 earmarked for procuring operational vehicles for the CCU in Abuja.
Further analysis of the budget also shows that N466.8 million is proposed for the renovation of the Vice President’s Quarters at the State House and the presidential villa. Additionally, N298.3 million is set aside for the renovation of the Vice President’s guest house in Asokoro, Abuja.
In another section of the budget, N164.9 million is allocated for the purchase of tyres for various vehicles, including bulletproof cars, regular cars, CCU vehicles, platform trucks, Jeeps, ambulances, and other utility and operational vehicles at the State House.
This sum is separate from the N3.66 billion proposed for the purchase of operational vehicles for the State House, as well as the N1.1 billion designated for replacing SUVs in the State House.
During his address to the National Assembly, Tinubu described the proposed 2025 budget as the “Budget of Restoration: Securing Peace, Rebuilding Prosperity.”
He explained that the budget aims to solidify the administration’s key policies, such as restructuring the economy, boosting human capital development, increasing trade and investments, enhancing oil and gas production, revitalizing the manufacturing sector, and improving Nigeria’s competitiveness.
He further stated, “We do not intend to depart from this critical path to strengthen the Nigerian economy. Just as I believe in the resilience of our economy to withstand the current challenges, I also strongly believe in the resilience of the Nigerian people.”
