Prominent Nigerian social commentator, Morris Monye, who previously served as the political adviser to the 2023 Labour Party’s gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour, said that people living with HIV in Nigeria may face tough times ahead as global funding for HIV treatment ends.

Recently, U.S. President Donald Trump announced he is stopping HIV funding for Nigeria and other countries.

Reacting to this, Monye pointed out that Nigeria wastes a lot of money on unnecessary projects instead of supporting health care.

He gave an example of the N21 billion spent on the Vice President’s house. According to him, this money could have been used to help subsidize drugs for HIV patients.

“ It’s going to be a tough 4 years for people living with HIV As I always say, Africa has to wake up. Our leaders must show leadership in this era of rising nationalism globally. Let me use Nigeria for example. Do you know that the N21bn wasted on VP’s house will go along way in subsiding drugs for patients? 21 billion naira,” Money tweeted.
