Gombe State Government alongside 11 Local Government Areas on Monday announced the payment of N580,870,900 million for ordinary level examinations for no fewer than 20,478 students.
Our correspondent reports that the examinations include West African Examinations Council, National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies and National Business and Technical Examinations Board.
Disclosing this shortly after a state executive council meeting, presided by Governor Muhammadu Yahaya of Gombe State, Commissioner for Education Dr Aishatu Maigari noted that offline registration had been completed.

She said, “Total of 20,478 students; for West African Examinations Council 18,723 students indigenes of Gombe State were paid for. We have exchange students from the 19 northern states and it’s the tradition of his excellency to pay for them we have 110 of them.

“We have special needs students at special education centre we have 58 in SS3 and their different exams have been paid for. We have NABTEB for students in science and technical colleges even though Federal Government has turned them from science and technical colleges to only technical colleges we have 1,368 of them.
“We have students in Government Arabic Colleges we paid NBAIS for 219 students making a total of 20,478 candidates amounting to N580,870,900 which will be shared between state and local governments. Registration has already commenced and we have finished offline and we are starting the online registration.”
She noted that memo was passed in a previous council meeting on improved sanitisation across schools, adding that there is a current road map for healthier environment in schools and health facilities.
She said, “The Commissioner for Water, Environment and Forest Resources, Health and Education were drafted as members to bring out a road map on improving sanitisation in schools and healthcare facilities.
“It was done and council approved a brand new road map for improving sanitation in schools and healthcare facilities in Gombe which has to do with coordinating body for coordinating environmental sanitation, provision of hygiene infrastructure and sustainability, education and awareness, sanitisation and enforcement and community engagement.
“We hope to see cleaner schools, health facilities.”
