Felix Okemini, a former Senior Special Assistant to the Ebonyi State Governor on Security (Ebonyi North), has lost his job and admission to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike Ikwo due to his involvement in cultism.

During the university’s matriculation ceremony, Okemini, who was studying Political Science, openly identified himself as a member of the NBM (Aye) cult group, donning their outfit and singing their songs. His actions were captured in a viral photo.
As a result, the Ebonyi State Governor sacked Okemini from his position, while the university suspended him indefinitely.

“It’s a moment of madness that has cost him dearly,” said a source. “He couldn’t resist the temptation to show off his cult affiliation, and now he’s paying the price.”
Okemini’s actions have sparked widespread condemnation, with many calling for stricter measures against cultism in educational institutions.
“This incident highlights the need for universities to take a stronger stance against cultism,” said a university official. “We will not tolerate any form of cult activity on our campus.”
How the school reacted
Mr Felix Okemini Ifesinachi, was suspended indefinitely by the university’s management over allegations of cult-related behaviour.
According to a letter signed by the Registrar, Ifeanyi Igwe, on March 20, 2025, which was obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA the school frowned at such misconduct capable of bringing the institution to disrepute.
The statement partly read, “The Vice-Chancellor has considered the report on allegation of cult related behavior leveled against you and has directed that you be suspended indefinitely from the University pending the outcome of the investigation of this matter by the Students’ Disciplinary Committee of the university.”
The university’s management emphasised that cultism and cult-related activities are unacceptable and against the rules and regulations governing students’ activities in the university. “You are hereby informed of your matriculation oath and the fact that cultism and cult related activities…are a security and moral threat to the University Community,” the letter stated.
