In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, the Deputy Governor of Gombe State, Dr Manassah Daniel Jatau, officially inaugurated the Task Force for the implementation and monitoring of the Gombe Goes Green (3G) Project.




PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that the ceremony which held in the Deputy Governor’s office conference room, marked a crucial moment in the state’s efforts to combat the adverse effects of climate change and promote a healthier environment for its citizens.
The Deputy Governor expressed gratitude to God for granting the state the privilege to witness the establishment of this critical initiative.

He extended the warm greetings of Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, noting that the governor had previously emphasised the need for urgent action to address the environmental challenges facing the state, including deforestation, desertification, gully erosion, and reduced food production due to climate change.
He highlighted that the Gombe Goes Green project was launched to tackle these pressing issues and improve the environment, which had long been a source of concern for both the government and citizens.
The Deputy Governor further commended the members of the newly formed Task Force, which consists of professionals, passionate about creating a greener and more sustainable Gombe State. He emphasised that the task force’s efforts would be pivotal in reducing the negative impacts of environmental degradation, such as poverty, food insecurity, health challenges, and infrastructure damage. Dr. Jatau also expressed his confidence in the team’s abilities, while cautioning them that success would only be celebrated after the effective delivery of the project’s goals.
In his inaugural speech, Dr. Abubakar Buba Atare II, the Mai Tula and Chairman of the Task Force, expressed deep humility and gratitude for the trust placed in him and his members. He praised the visionary leadership of Governor Yahaya, noting that the Gombe Goes Green initiative represented a holistic approach to addressing climate change and fostering socioeconomic development in the state. The Mai Tula outlined the Task Force’s commitment to transparency, accountability, and inclusivity in carrying out the project. He also emphasised the importance of collaboration with local communities, traditional rulers, and other stakeholders to ensure success of the initiative.
He said, Gombe Goes Green project aims to prioritise afforestation, ecological balance, and the creation of green jobs. The Chairman who also spoke with the press further highlighted that the activities to be carried out for successful execution include advocacy and educational campaigns to raise awareness and encourage active participation from the public in preserving the environment.
The Task Force pledged to dedicate themselves fully to the cause, with a clear focus on delivering tangible results that would leave a lasting positive impact on Gombe State.
The Royal father,as chairman of the Task Force said, “with this new initiative, Gombe State aims to become a model for environmental sustainability in Nigeria, creating a greener, more prosperous future for generations to come.”
The Chairperson of the Shongom Local Local Government Hajiya Fatima Binta Bello who is representing her colleagues chairmen from Gombe south senatorial district lauded the initiative of the governor and called on the people to support this gigantic and significant initiative for the protection of the environment.
Present at the occasion were Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Ibrahim Abubakar Njodi, Head of Civil Service, Alh. Ahmed Kasimu Abdullahi, Commissioners, Special Advisers, Chairperson Teachers Service Commission, Mrs Naomi Maiguwa and the Permanent Secretary Deputy Governors Office, Mrs Larai Maigari among others.
