The Nigeria Union of Journalists Gombe State Council, has joined the global community in celebrating International Women’s Day, recognising the contributions and achievements of women worldwide.
This was contained in a press statement signed by Secretary of the council Shuaibu Umar and Chairman Faruk Muazu, obtained by PERISCOPE NIGERIA on Saturday.
The statement partly read, “As we celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, the NUJ Gombe State Council salutes the courage, resilience, and determination of women journalists in Gombe State, who have continued to excel in their profession despite the challenges they face.”
The council noted that women journalists in Gombe State have demonstrated exceptional skill, dedication, and perseverance in their work. “We acknowledge the significant contributions of women journalists to the growth and development of the media industry in Gombe State,” the statement added.
The NUJ Gombe State Council pledged to continue supporting and empowering women journalists in the state, adding “We recognise the importance of creating an enabling environment that allows women journalists to thrive and reach their full potential.”
The council called on stakeholders to join hands in promoting gender equality, empowering women, and addressing the challenges faced by women journalists in Gombe State, stressing that “We must work together to create a society that values and respects the contributions of women and provides them with equal opportunities to succeed.”
The NUJ Gombe State Council also urged the government and other stakeholders to take concrete steps to address the challenges faced by women journalists in the state. “This includes providing them with access to training and capacity-building programs, promoting gender equality in the workplace, and protecting them from harassment and intimidation,” the statement urged.
PERISCOPE NIGERIA reports that as the council celebrates International Women’s Day, the statement harped on the need to recall the struggles and sacrifices of women journalists who have come before them, adding “We honour their memory and legacy by continuing to fight for gender equality, justice, and human rights.”
