The Northern Nigerian Youths Leaders Forum, Gombe State chapter, has urged Ali Isa, a member of the House of Representatives representing Billiri/Balanga to withdraw a court case against Thomas Umar.
Our correspondent reports that Umar criticised the Minority Whip online, over alleged diversion of projects prompting the court action.
The forum’s spokesperson, Mu’azu Hina, on Friday urged the need for dialogue and in-house resolution, rather than resorting to litigation.
Hina said, “This call for dialogue highlights the importance of resolving conflicts peacefully, especially in a region where tensions can run high. By advocating for a peaceful resolution, the Northern Nigerian Youths Leaders Forum is promoting a constructive approach to conflict resolution.
“The Forum’s stance is particularly significant, given the current climate of political tensions in Nigeria. As the country navigates its post-election landscape, it is crucial that leaders prioritise dialogue and cooperation over confrontation.”
The forum while urging for withdrawal of the court case against Thomas Umar, urged both parties to resolve their differences through dialogue to avoid further escalation and promote a more constructive exchange of ideas.
“Moreover, this approach can help to promote a culture of tolerance and respect for differing opinions. In a democratic society, the ability to engage in constructive debate and criticism is essential for holding leaders accountable and promoting good governance,” the forum added.
The Northern Nigerian Youths Leaders Forum’s emphasised on dialogue and in-house resolution underscoring the importance of community-based conflict resolution mechanisms.
“By resolving disputes through local channels, communities can avoid the formal legal system and promote more effective, sustainable solutions.
“Ultimately, the forum’s call for dialogue and cooperation offers a positive example for leaders and citizens across Nigeria. By prioritising peaceful conflict resolution and constructive dialogue, Nigerians can build a more just, equitable society for all,” he added.
