Some passengers are stranded at the Zakari Maimalari Airport formerly known as Lawanti International Airport Gombe, over alleged industrial action embarked by Nigerian Meteorological Agency.
Our correspondent reports that the action only affected Air peace as Overland passengers left the Airport on Wednesday.
According to a cancellation notice provided by an Air peace passenger, who identified her as Iheme, said “Dear Esteemed Passenger, We regret to inform you that your 12:30PM flight, P47443, Gombe to Lagos for April 23, 2025 has been unavoidably cancelled due to NIMET industrial action.”
“We honestly understand the resulting inconvenience and regret the effect of this unexpected cancellation on your travel plans. Please, bear with us. For enquiries to reschedule or reroute (at no extra cost),” she added.
She decried why the airline waited for passengers to arrive the airport before announcing cancellation.
“We left our hotel rooms, paid taxis to be here only to allow that waste. The painful thing was that our bags have been checked in but was brought out abruptly without any pre notice,” she decried.
Another passenger, Mohammed Adamu, said “this is unfortunate I have business to take care of in Abuja only to be told that I can’t go again. I just had to use look for money to get Overland which was overly expensive to meet up but I’m surprised they were not affected by the action.”
Based on an official notice by the airline obtained by our correspondent which was signed by Head of Corporate Communications, Ejike Ndiulo, he explained that due to the ongoing NiMet strike and the unavailability of CNH (hazardous weather) reports required for safe landings.
“Air Peace has suspended all flight operations nationwide until the strike is over.
“Your safety is our top priority. We appreciate your understanding and will share updates as the situation unfolds,” Ndiulo added.
