Speaking during sensitisation at Bethany International College, Nasarawo, Gombe State Director of NOA, Adaline Patari, called for concerted efforts towards curbing raging consequences of examination malpractice and drug abuse in the state.

She said, “Exam malpractice and drug abuse are dream killers. They might look like shortcuts or coping mechanisms now, but they only lead to regret and missed opportunities.”

She stressed the need for young people to embrace discipline, hard work, and integrity, noting that the Federal Government maintains a zero-tolerance stance on examination malpractice in all academic institutions across the country.

“Success is not something you steal; it is something you earn through honest effort. Taking drugs without a doctor’s prescription or indulging in illicit substances will only destroy your health, your focus, and your future,” Patari added.

Patari went on to explain the dangers of substance abuse, describing it as the misuse of psychoactive substances such as alcohol, prescription drugs, and illegal drugs, adding “Drug abuse impairs your judgment, affects academic performance, fuels violence, and in some cases, leads to death. Say no to drugs. Say yes to your dreams, your education, and your future.”

The event also featured discussions on civic responsibility, patriotism, and the importance of upholding national values. Patari said the agency’s outreach aimed to equip students with the knowledge and attitude required to become responsible citizens.

“Our goal is to ensure that Nigerian students grow up with strong moral foundations and a deep sense of duty to their country,” she stated.

On her part, the Manager of Bethany International College, Mrs Benedicta Olaniyan, commended NOA for its grassroots engagement and advocacy.

Represented by the school principal, Mr Olabisi Samuel, Olaniyan said, “This kind of sensitisation is essential in today’s Nigeria. It helps shape the thinking of our students and instills in them values that promote unity, integrity, and national progress.”

She added that continuous interaction between government agencies and educational institutions would foster better understanding of public policies and strengthen patriotism among youths.

As part of the outreach, NOA donated educational materials bearing national symbols and the national anthem to the school, aimed at reinforcing civic education among the students.
