Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has cast doubt on the possibility of Tinubu securing a second term in office, saying the current political and economic conditions make a 2027 reelection bid extremely unlikely.
El-Rufai made the remarks during an interview on SDP national updates, in a video posted on X by @chude. In the clip, El-Rufai responded bluntly when asked about Tinubu’s political future.
“Anybody that thinks it is possible for President Bola Tinubu to get re-elected is living in another country, not Nigeria,” he said.
Describing a re-election scenario as unattainable, El-Rufai dismissed any hope that even a fragmented opposition could make room for Tinubu’s return.
“It is impossible for Bola Tinubu to get re-elected. I don’t see a pathway for him, no matter how disorganized the opposition is.”
In a further jibe at Tinubu’s dwindling popularity, the former FCT minister questioned where the sitting president would find support if he chose to run again.
“Who will vote for him? But that’s my own opinion…”
El-Rufai, once a key ally in the ruling APC, has in recent months distanced himself from the administration’s inner circle. His blunt assessment adds to public speculation that many former insiders are no longer confident in Tinubu’s political survival beyond 2027.
